What is the difference between Tobermory and Ledaig whiskies?
Tobermory and Ledaig whiskies are both crafted at Tobermory Distillery on the Isle of Mull. The main difference is in their flavour profiles: Tobermory whiskies are unpeated, showcasing lighter, fruity, and slightly spicy flavours, while Ledaig whiskies are heavily peated, offering bold, smoky, and maritime notes. Both ranges capture the unique character of our island home but cater to different taste preferences.
What makes a limited edition release special?
Limited edition releases are whiskies that have been produced in small quantities, often with unique cask finishes or longer maturation times. These whiskies are rare and offer a distinct flavour profile that may not be replicated again. They are ideal for collectors or as gifts for special occasions, providing a one-of-a-kind tasting experience.
What is a cask finish, and why is it important?
A cask finish is a process where whisky is transferred from its original cask to a different type of cask for a final maturation period. This step adds unique flavours and characteristics from the second cask, such as sherry, wine, or bourbon, to the whisky. At Tobermory, we use a variety of cask finishes, including Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, to enhance the complexity and depth of our single malts.
Do Single Malt Whiskies make a good gift?
Absolutely! There’s a timelessness to single malt Scotch whisky that makes it an ideal present. Every bottle tells a story, from the heritage of the distillery to the artistry of the Master Blender. The process of creating a single malt—from the choice of barley to the type of cask used for aging—imbues each whisky with unique characteristics and flavours, making every sip a special experience. Single malt whisky also brings people together, whether it's shared among friends and family during festive gatherings or gifted as a thoughtful token of appreciation. For connoisseurs and newcomers alike, a bottle of fine whisky offers more than just a drink; it’s an experience and a celebration in its own right.
Are Tobermory whiskies suitable for beginners?
Absolutely! Tobermory whiskies are known for their smooth, approachable flavours, making them ideal for newcomers to single malts. Expressions like the Tobermory 12 Year Old offer a balanced introduction to whisky, with fruity and vanilla notes that are easy to enjoy. For those interested in exploring peated whiskies, the Ledaig 10 Year Old is a great starting point, offering smoky
flavours in a well-rounded profile.
Do Tobermory and Ledaig whiskies make good gifts for collectors?

Both our Tobermory and Ledaig limited editions, such as our Tobermory Hebridean Series or Ledaig Triple Wood, are highly sought after by collectors due to their unique finishes, limited availability, and exceptional quality. Each release is crafted with care, making them valuable additions to any whisky collection.
